School Programs
The NJMMA Education Committee developed a program targeting high school juniors and
seniors in an effort to prepare the next generation of voters, taxpayers, and potential
public officials for their future roles. The prime ingredient in the program is placing a
practitioner in the classroom for two to five days each semester. The objective is to
teach students about their own local government and the issues facing the communities in
which they live. Each program is tailored to address the interest of local school
officials.

Selecting a Municipal Manager
Elected officials who participate in the appointment of a municipal manager or
administrator are engaging in one of the most important tasks they will perform during
their term in office. It is a task requiring careful planning, astute evaluation of the
candidates, and a clear understanding of the relationships between the manager, the
elected officials, and the community, as well as the responsibilities of the new manager.
NJMMA has produced two brochures to assist elected officials with the selection of a
municipal manager. The brochures are called What You Can Expect From a Local Government
Professional: A Guide for Local Elected Officials and Guidelines to Aid
Municipalities in the Selection of a Municipal Manager. In addition,
the NJMMA monthly newsletter provides free space for municipalities to
advertise openings for administrators, managers, and assistants. Please
contact us if you wish to receive copies of our brochures or receive
information about advertising in our newsletter. |
